International projects and activities

Higher education in the Netherlands, and at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in particular, increasingly encourages students to gain international experience and take part in exchange programmes. The English language is an important tool in this context. International projects and activities are included in the various curricula of the School of Education.

International week

Once every year, the School of Education organises an international week for all second-year students. Students can choose to participate in the programme abroad or at the School of Education in Groningen. The working language is English.

During the programme, students familiarise themselves with a foreign educational approach as inspiration for their own teaching practice by means of different assignments, lectures, workshops and visits to primary schools. They learn – from and with each other – to look beyond borders and enrich their own view of the approach to education. During this week, they also learn what their own cultural point of view is: how can you relate your own frame of reference and world view to other perspectives.

The week concludes with a final presentation about different international education systems.

Erasmus+

Together with six partner universities from various European countries, the School of Education is participating in a three-year Erasmus+ project: GO Prince. The participating universities are located in Belgium, England, Denmark, Portugal, Turkey and Lithuania.

Erasmus+ is the European grant programme for education, youth and sport. The programme is based on the belief that investments in education, training and non-formal learning are of vital importance in order to give people – regardless of age or background – the chance to continuously develop themselves, or in other words: lifelong learning.

The content of the 'GO Prince – Inclusive Education in Early Childhood: Developing Good Practices' project consists of transnational meetings, two intensive study programmes and the development of intellectual output in the form of a manual that can be used by teachers in inclusive classrooms. The project will run until 2020.
