Becoming a Change Communication Consultant: a dream realised
- Graduate stories
Sina Huneke, originally from a small town near Hamburg in Germany, graduated with a degree in International Communication in 2021. After her internship in employer branding, she began envisioning a career in internal communications, a path that ultimately led her to her current role as a Change Communication Consultant at Accenture.
‘My work is very diverse, and no two days are the same. I focus on communication planning, strategy development, and stakeholder engagement with my client teams. I participate in numerous meetings and create a range of communication formats, including newsletters, internal posts, videos, and narrative content. I also write copy and help measure communication KPIs to track the effectiveness of our initiatives.’
‘Looking back, I’m grateful I chose International Communication. I gained valuable skills in teamwork, project management, and time management, along with a solid foundation in international and intercultural communication. The experience of working with real clients during the IC programme also helped me build confidence in professional communication, which I now use every day with clients. I’ve always been fascinated by intercultural communication. I could definitely imagine building a career in that field in the future.’
‘One standout project was during my internship at a large automotive company. We organised a photo and video shoot for their employer branding campaign, and I had just started in the role. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and required me to take on significant responsibility. Although it was challenging, the final results were great, and I was proud to have contributed to such a high-impact project. My internship was my first real professional experience, and I learned a tremendous amount, for which I’m very grateful. It even influenced my next step: I continued working in employer branding as a working student after the internship ended.’
‘I loved the international student community around the program and the many opportunities to connect, network, and collaborate. The close contact with teachers and the supportive learning environment made it easy to grow both personally and professionally. Be open-minded and honest with yourself about what you want to learn and achieve. Do not hesitate to ask for help or feedback; it will accelerate your growth. Take every opportunity to network, as those connections can be invaluable for your career. Most importantly, follow what you truly enjoy. It may take time to find your path, but you will eventually look back and feel proud of where you’ve arrived.’
