The Start-up Ems-Dollart region focuses on what connects them: entrepreneurship, innovativeness and the region. The goal is to set up a cross-border ecosystem: a network of companies, teachers, organisations, municipalities and young entrepreneurs (the start-ups), in which all parties receive the guidance and support to grow. "By connecting education, events, companies and startups, we are creating a smart phone book."

Research into the cross-border start-up scene in the northern Netherlands and north-west Germany has shown that there is a need and there are many possibilities and opportunities to work together across the border. The project 'Startup Ems-Dollart region' aims to promote cross-border cooperation between start-ups and young entrepreneurs in the region.

For example, targeted mentoring programmes and a range of cross-border training courses are being developed and knowledge of existing (digital) networks of companies is shared. The project supports regional knowledge (sharing) and cross-border cooperation between young entrepreneurs. This stimulates the innovative power of the Ems-Dollart region and creates employment.

More information about the project can be found on www.startup-edr.eu or check out Twitter and LinkedIn.

Research question

Start-ups have already made a major contribution to economic growth in various parts of the Ems-Dollart region in recent years. A well-functioning ecosystem offers growth opportunities for the labour market. This is extremely important for both the German and Dutch border areas.
