Master Programme Talent Development & Diversity

Master curriculum

The master programme Talent Development & Diversity (T&D) focuses on improving educational quality in the classroom by optimally stimulating talent development in students/pupils/children in all their diversity. The programme expands and deepens the didactical, pedagogical, research and professional competences of participants. The master’s in Talent Development & Diversity is offered only in Dutch in the city of Groningen.

The programme is designed around the dynamic interactions in the talent triangle between pupil, teacher/adult and educational tasks. Each of its four modules concentrates on the talent triangle from a different perspective to provide students with different views on talent based education. Graduates from the programme will function as initiators of research based educational innovation in schools of all types.

Research based

The master T&D is based on a dynamic systems approach of talent development combined with academic insights from development psychology and educational theory. The Curious Minds approach is based on a complexity approach of learning and behavior. Research in the master T&D is supervised by two professors, each with their own research group. Master teachers are all involved in research in these research groups and most hold a PhD.

Professional orientation

As University of Applied Sciences, Hanze UAS offers masters programmes with a professional orientation. Master students work during their programme as teachers and do research within the context of their work or another educational setting. Assessment concentrates on assignments in which students design educational innovations based on their research. Examples are the design of new interaction methods, an innovative learning environment and an innovative design of an instrument to measure educational results. In the graduation module students choose a topic from their own teaching environment for their thesis.

Professional development

Parallel to all four modules, master students participate in a professional development track, in which they learn management skills and they reflect on their professional development during their master programme. Topics are for instance change management and creative thinking. Developing an international perspective is also an important feature of the professional development track. Master students need to establish a regular contact with a fellow teacher in a different country with whom they compare the educational system and practice in both countries.
