All the key info – deadlines, requirements, preparation and practical tips
Applying to university is a big step, perhaps the first truly significant one as we began to enter the adult world. I can imagine how confusing at times that can fell, especially after spending a long deciding what and where to study. That's why it's essential to make sure you've submitted the right documents to the right place and met all the deadline sounds. This article is here to guide you through the process, helping you navigate important deadlines, requirements and offering practical tips to prepare you along the way.
The process
Starting with the basics. A few important things to bear in mind: the application process is completely free and fully online. In the Netherlands, you can apply up to four programmes - where that's up to you. You start by registering via Studielink.nl, after which you will be redirected to the Hanze Apply portal. To make things easier. you can find helpful video tutorials here: hanze.nl/application
Honestly, at first, I couldn’t quite understand why the deadlines for non-EU/EEA students were earlier than for EU/EEA applicants. Do the pigeons carrying the application letters to Hanze need more time to fly from further away? Ahah! Jokes aside, when you step into a Hanze classroom, you’ll see people from literally all over the world, so I guess those pigeons are doing a great job delivering applications from every corner of the globe.
At Hanze, some programmes have special selection procedures, which means there are two type of deadlines - general and specific.
General
The general deadline for most programmes for:
-
EU/EEA - 15 August
-
non-EU/EEA students - 1 June
However, for students from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Iran, Ghana, Afghanistan, and Nigeria, the deadline is 1 May due to stricter immigration procedures.
Specific
For special deadlines, it is best to check the programme webpage. Every programme has their deadlines explained. Link 🔗 hanze.nl/programmes
Admission requirements
Academic Requirements
The requirements can be also divided into general and specific. The general requirements apply to all applicants, while the specific ones are for programmes with special selection procedures. In summary, to apply to Hanze you’ll need:

-
For Master’s programmes: a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Good to know: Once when you choose your desired programme, make sure you read all the requirements and deadlines carefully since every programme can have their own exceptions/specifics.
Language requirements
As you're planning of studying full time in English sounds logical to prove your English sufficiency if you're not coming from a country where English, is official language. Studying in English is very different form watching your favourite Netflix show in English. Having a good command is needed and required.
Certificates
Hanze accepts different certificates and also there are some exemptions. You can find the complete information about this on 🔗 https://hanze.nl/languagerequirements
Good to know: If you don’t have all the required documents at the time of application, you can still apply and receive a letter of provisional acceptance. If your high school or undergraduate diploma has not yet been issued, you may submit your academic transcript instead. This allows our admissions office to assess whether you are a good fit for the programme. Please keep in mind that all remaining documents must be submitted before the application deadline.
What to expect after graduation?
After hitting the 'submit application’ button you can expect and answer usually a month, it can be shorter or a bit longer. I remember I got my letter of provisional acceptance after two weeks.
