André Heeres is professor Biobased Chemistry & Refinery. His research focuses on (bio)chemical modifications of biobased resources.
In his research, André focuses on the circular transition and green chemistry in relation to sustainable materials. As an example, he has researched the recovery of cellulose from waste water and how the obtained material can be reused as a resource. Moreover, his professorship works on biobased alternatives for fossil-based plastics.
André Heeres works in close collaboration with industrial companies and other knowledge institutes in the Northern Netherlands. For example, the professorship is part of the SPRONG-consortium 'Developing a sustainable chemical industry', which is a collaboration with NHL Stenden and aims to advance the circular transition within the chemical industry.
