André Heeres is professor Biobased Chemistry & Refinery. His research focuses on (bio)chemical modifications of biobased resources.
In his research, André focuses on the circular transition and green chemistry in relation to sustainable materials. As an example, he has researched the recovery of cellulose from waste water and how the obtained material can be reused as a resource. Moreover, his professorship works on biobased alternatives for fossil-based plastics.

The professorship Biobased Chemistry & Refinery is also involved in the SPRONG-consortium 'Developing a sustainable chemical industry'. Also, André is co-founder of the Innovation Hub East-Groningen (IHOG).
