Remo Mombarg is a professor Sports Education and Youth Sports at the School of Sports Studies at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, within the professorship Sports Science.
He also holds a position at the University of Groningen (RuG) in the Department of Special Education. Students from the RuG’s Special Education and Human Movement Sciences departments, as well as from the Academy for Physical Education, are involved in researching effective movement interventions to help children participate in the current and future sports society. This research also examines the relationship between physical activity and academic performance.
In addition, he is the coordinator of the Knowledge Workplace for Physical Education and Motor Learning. In 1990, Remo graduated from the Academy for Physical Education. He then completed his studies in Special Education at the University of Groningen (1994) and later trained as a Healthcare Psychologist (2005). In 2007, he obtained his PhD in Special Education with a dissertation titled "Tailored Support for Students with Learning Difficulties in Learning Pathway Support Education".

Remo's research interests include motor learning in children with and without disabilities, the effects of movement interventions on physical fitness, physical activity, sports participation, and cognitive functioning in children in (special) education. Additionally, he is a national trainer for Motor Remedial Teachers and, as a registered Healthcare Psychologist, a trainer in the use of motor assessments (M-ABC & BOT, Pearson).
To date, he has published over 50 professional publications, articles, and book chapters. He also delivers lectures and workshops on physical education and youth sport both nationally and internationally.
