Dr. Remo Mombarg is a professor in Sports Education and Youth Sports at the School of Sports Studies. His research focuses on how children, with and without disabilities, can move and learn effectively in physical education and youth sport.
Within the research group for Sport Science, Remo develops and studies effective physical activity interventions for children. He works closely with students from the Academy for Physical Education and the University of Groningen (in orthopedagogy and movement sciences) to explore how sport and physical activity contribute to children's overall development, including academic performance. He is also coordinator of the Knowledge Workplace for Physical Education and Motor Learning, where practice and science come together.

In addition to his work at Hanze, Remo is affiliated with the University of Groningen, at the Department of Special Education. Furthermore he is trained as a healthcare psychologist and is active as a national trainer for Motor Remedial Teachers. In this role, he delivers training in the use of motor assessment tools such as the M-ABC and BOT. To date, Remo has published more than 50 professional publications, articles and book chapters and is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars in the Netherlands and abroad, on topics such as motor learning, sport participation and cognitive functioning of children in (special) education.
