Practical experience and connections with the professional field are two aspects of our programs that we at Hanze University of Applied Sciences are very proud of. ZAP Groningen plays a major role in this for chemistry and chemical engineering students. The facility is frequently used for educational purposes.
For example, Hanze University of Applied Sciences offers practicals for second- and third-year chemical engineering students, and Noorderpoort (vocational secondary education) offers practicals for second-, third-, and fourth-year aspiring operators. Both educational institutions use the practical classrooms, laboratories, and facilities in the process hall for these purposes.
In addition to the opportunities for companies, education plays a key role at ZAP. As an innovation hub, we facilitate projects by students, lecturers, and researchers from Hanze University of Applied Sciences, the University of Groningen, and Noorderpoort. These projects not only utilise ZAP's facilities and spaces but also are developed through the connections that ZAP creates between business, research, and education. Students at ZAP conduct research on questions posed directly by companies or by professors and lecturers. This way, they acquire the knowledge and skills they will need in the professional field. By serving as a link between businesses, research, and education, ZAP can also quickly identify new developments in the field and actively bring them to the attention of educational institutions.
Besides facilitating research and education, ZAP also aims to raise awareness among researchers and students about topics such as sustainability and the circular economy. Therefore, ZAP, in collaboration with various partners, organises events such as challenges, kick-offs, and lectures across a wide range of disciplines. With these events, ZAP hopes to contribute to the development of students and researchers with a broad interest and a sustainable mindset.
