The Zernike Advanced Processing (ZAP) facility is a testing ground for research and education. It is a semi-industrial work-based learning environment where research centres and companies collaborate on research projects. This research is mainly aimed at green chemistry and bio-processing technologies.
Companies can come to ZAP with a variety of research questions. At ZAP, ideas and processes can be scaled up to ‘proof of concept’ (Technology Readiness Level 4-6). This allows companies to test the market potential of their product. In addition, through ZAP, companies connect with students from various educational institutions and can collaborate with them on solutions to real-world problems. These are valuable experiences for both companies and students.
