ZAP 1 and ZAP 2

There are two spaces within the ZAP Groningen building on the Entrance grounds: ZAP 1 and ZAP 2. ZAP 1 is where professors, researchers, lecturers, and students work on practicals and projects. Students from vocational schools, universities of applied science and research universities can gain practical experience here. ZAP 2 is where companies can rent space and equipment for their own innovations. This allows startups to develop and scale their projects. Companies can also conduct their R&D activities in ZAP 2. MRSU in ZAP 2

ZAP 2 houses the MRSU. This versatile unit can perform numerous processes for research and educational projects. MRSU stands for Multipurpose Reaction & Separation Unit. It can be used for several common processes in the chemical industry, including polymerisation, crystallisation, and the precise separation of materials.

The MRSU is based on a custom design. Lecturer-researcher and project leader at ZAP, Mark Meerdink, collaborated with students to create a design specifically for this location. Mark had to consider not only the wishes of lecturers, researchers, and students from Hanze University of Applied Sciences, the University of Groningen, and Noorderpoort, but also those of the companies that use the facilities at ZAP Groningen.
