Exploring transdisciplinary music practices in healthcare and education

On 12 January 2026, the Beats and Connections project kicks off with an inspiring afternoon for professionals, educators, musicians, researchers, and care partners interested in the role of music in healthcare and social contexts. The kick-off also introduces the Beats and Connections elective (10 ECTS) and the teacher training programme, starting in February 2026.

Beats and Connections is a Comenius educational innovation project that develops new transdisciplinary forms of education for students and teachers from the Prins Claus Conservatorium, Minerva Academy for Popculture, and the programmes Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Social Work at Hanze University of Applied Sciences. The project focuses on working together across disciplines, using music as a resource within social and care practices.

During the kick-off event, participants will learn more about the project’s vision, curriculum, and research focus. The programme includes musical contributions, perspectives from the care field, and opportunities to exchange experiences on existing and emerging practices at the intersection of music, healthcare and education.

The event is open to:

  • Professionals from healthcare and social care
  • Care organisations and care partners
  • Musicians and music practitioners working in care contexts
  • Educators and educational designers involved in transdisciplinary education
  • Researchers and students interested in music, care, and society
