What does it look like to be a professional musician in today’s multi-faceted world? There are many ways to be a modern musician in context to a quickly adapting society.

The NAIP master helps you:

Find and refine your creative voice
Find and engage your audience. How can you connect to your audience through your music?
Become an adaptive performer/creator within a variety of interdisciplinary and social contexts.
Get outside of the conservatoire, and do real projects with the community and other arts organisations.

NAIP is for students from all musical backgrounds and musical goals. Through taking part in interdisciplinary art making, exploring technological possibilities, engaging with society and making site specific art, students will develop the necessary skills to become creative and flexible all-round musicians that are able to create in and respond to any context.

After Graduation

Upon graduating, you will be an innovative master of music who is able to perform, create, lead & facilitate your own musical projects at a professional level. You will have the skills to navigate collaborations with other professionals in interdisciplinary settings, as well as understand your own creative voice in context to society.

Your study evolves around developing a Professional Practice. This practice can be designed in any way depending on your own interests, ambitions and qualities and will eventually lead to finalising your Master. To prepare your Professional Practice you follow some mandatory modules such as Performance & Communication, Leading & Guiding, Project Management & Entrepreneurship and Practice-based Research. In addition to the mandatory modules there is a variety of optional modules which you can choose within the frame of Open Credits. It is also important to bring in your own projects in order to shape your individual pathway based on your studyplan. You will have the opportunity to participate in joint intensive projects we organise together with our international NAIP partners.

NAIP is a program for students who are already educated in their musical craft. During your NAIP studies, you will work to further develop your musical skills in a supportive artistic environment. Students receive private and group instrumental or vocal lessons from PCC teachers, as well as renowned guest teachers from all over the world. In addition, NAIP students will work on their improvisation skills in the LAB and Creative Ensemble. These skills prepare you for the stage, but also help foster skills in creation, education, curation & facilitating events, and beyond.

You carry out practice-based research in order to become a well-rounded musical artist. The research is underpinning your professional practice and will be based on you study-plan, which you create alongside a team of coaches. Mentors/Coaches will assist you in your personal goals, as well assist in the content and methodical approaches of your study plan. Your research eventually leads to a presentation which is directly linked to your musical practice.

Within the NAIP master's programme you have the opportunity to study abroad for a period of time. You can choose for an exchange semester in one of the NAIP partner institutes or an institution of your choice. ERASMUS+ offers scholarships to students who want to study abroad. The Prince Claus Conservatoire has agreements with various institutes throughout the world.

Iceland University of the Arts

The Bank of Resources is a database of the European Master of Music New Audiences and Innovative Practice, a strategic partnership of several international institutes. In this database you can find project descriptions, learning outcomes, videos and photos of the past years.

The Bank of Resources has been created during two strategic projects of the partners, with financial aid of the Erasmus+ Programme.

The first project, NAIP: Innovation in Higher Music Education 2014-2016, aimed to innovate curricula and teaching methods of higher music education, by continuing the development of the European Music Master for New Audiences and Innovative Practices.

The second strategic project NAIP: Training Artists without Borders 2016-2018 aimed to modernise curricula and innovate the learning environment by starting an interdisciplinary dialogue between institutes for higher music education and performing arts.
