Public Health and Healthy Ageing

Over the next 30 years, the number of people over the age of 65 in the Netherlands will increase by 1.5 million. And a quarter of the population will be older than 65 in 2040. This brings challenges such as rising healthcare costs because many elderly people with chronic conditions and complex (multi-) problems live at home.

What can we do to keep the elderly healthy and vital, and how do we prevent the elderly from (unnecessarily) ending up in care? How can we contribute to healthy ageing with public health? This is a grey area where much is still unclear, but where there are also many possibilities. By capitalising on existing knowledge and new research, this research group wants to explore these possibilities and put them into practice, with the aim of adding more years in good health for our older population.
