The professorship of Real Estate conducts applied research on the role of real estate in the transition towards a future-proof living environment and economy. Our focus lies on the valuation, (re)development and management of vital areas for working, living and leisure. For us, real estate is about people first, not about buildings.
What we do
We work on topics such as dynamic city and village centres, inclusive neighbourhoods, thriving business locations, creative hubs, suitable housing for vulnerable groups, sustainable area development, mixed-use functions and placemaking.
The research of the professorship mainly focuses on three current area-related challenges concerning living, working and meeting/staying:
-
Inclusive residential environments
-
Innovative business locations
-
Vital city and town centres
With an area-based and integrated approach, we create impact for education, practice and society. We collaborate with governments, SMEs, non-profits, umbrella organisations and knowledge institutions — locally, regionally and internationally.
Our core values and principles
We work on the transformation and sustainability of the existing real estate stock, always from an area-based and integrated perspective. We aim for multiple value creation — economic, social, cultural and spatial. The active role of end users and their surroundings is central, with attention to inclusivity and ethics at every stage of the process.
Applied research
For the professorship of Real Estate, applied research means developing knowledge with practice, for practice, about practice and in practice. Our guiding principle in the interaction between education, research and practice is to seize those situations where the knowledge needs of professionals and future professionals meet. In this way, sharing knowledge becomes multiplying knowledge.
