Whereas the other professorships of the Research Centre Biobased Economy approach sustainability from a technological perspective, the professorship Transition towards a Circular Economy investigates the transition to a circular and biobased economy from an economic and social perspective.
This professorship is led by Niels Faber and focusesd on the transition from a linear to a circular economy. This transition derives from the major challenges we face today. Our current economic system is not set up for reuse, repair and recycling, but rather for continuous production and consumption. How can we better organise ourselves (knowledge institutions, companies, government, citizens) for a circular economy? What needs to happen for this, how can we prepare? Niels Faber is working on this problem through innovative research, collaboration with companies and education.
Niels Faber took over this professorship from Egbert Dommerholt in 2024.
