Elderly Care in Transition

Nursing home care is changing. In view of the expected increase in the number of frail elderly people and the pressure on the labour market, innovation is of great importance.

Promoting the right care in the right place for vulnerable older adults and the necessary transition to make elderly care future-proof are central to this research area. To achieve these goals, the research area focuses on several key themes:

  • Interprofessional collaboration and learning
  • Health and prevention in the home environment, in close cooperation with elderly themselves
  • Person-centred care and treatment, with attention to strengthening autonomy, self-reliance and well-being, and reducing dependence on professional care (including through Reablement and shared self-reliance)
  • The use and development of care technology
  • Short-term care and treatment, such as geriatric rehabilitation, which supports recovery and return to the home setting
