About us

EnTranCe | Centre of Expertise Energy - Hanzehogeschool Groningen

Entrance is committed to the development of a sustainable energy supply. In our centre of expertise, scientists, students, companies and social institutions come together to share knowledge. Together, we search for solutions that really contribute to the transition to cleaner energy sources: the energy transition. Entrance encourages open innovation, in which the energy user plays the leading role. Our motto is therefore: “People in Power”.

For our energy, we are going to use less and less coal, oil and gas. We are switching to renewable energy, for instance, from solar panels, windmills or waste. This is a huge change that will affect everyone. At Entrance, we look at that change from various angles. What needs to change technically to always have enough sustainable electricity and heat? How can and do people want to contribute to the energy transition? What new laws and regulations do we need? And how will the transition to a sustainable energy system affect our economy and labour market?

'People in Power'

With our applied research, we answer the most pressing practical questions and develop new solutions and ideas for energy transition. In our testing facilities - from advanced measurement set-ups to the 'living lab' Ameland - we see what really works. And with our education, we train the creative, multidisciplinary accelerators of tomorrow. In everything we do, the energy user has the leading role. Our motto is therefore “People in Power”.

Collaboration

At Entrance, we successfully collaborate with companies, entrepreneurs, (governmental) organisations, researchers and students on hybrid energy systems and applications of alternative (bio)gases. But also on the social and economic side of the energy transition. How do we tell the story and strengthen support? What does it take to get new energy accepted? How do we finance it? What does that mean for business models and the labour market?

Open innovation

Entrance is a public-private partnership that provides a place for open knowledge sharing. The concept of open innovation is translated into practice here. Innovative ideas are exchanged with companies, governments and social institutions. We stimulate innovation, thereby accelerating the energy transition and strengthening the knowledge economy in the Northern Netherlands.
