IBS student Peter Strmensky

When Peter Strmensky started studying International Business at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, he didn’t expect to run his own apartment rental business in Slovakia. But with a passion for hospitality and a drive to create something of his own, Mlyn Vlachy 1997 Apartments was born.

How It All Started

After graduating from International Business School in 2024, where I specialised in Finance & Accounting, I decided to take a leap. I launched Mlyn Vlachy 1997 Apartments, a short-term rental business in the beautiful Liptov region of Slovakia.

The idea had been with me for a while. I’ve always wanted to create something of my own. A space where people can relax, recharge, and enjoy nature. In August 2024, I made it happen.

What IBS Taught Me

Looking back, IBS gave me more than just a degree. It gave me the mindset and tools to start this journey. The open-minded environment taught me how to adapt quickly, and the digital skills I learned have been incredibly useful. From marketing to budgeting, I use what I learned every day.

Why I Love Being an Entrepreneur

What I enjoy most about owning my own business is the energy it gives me. No two days are the same. I love meeting travelers from all over the world and seeing their joy when they arrive at our apartments. That’s when I know I’m doing something right.

The Hardest Part

Of course, there are challenges too. Time and resource management can be overwhelming, especially during peak seasons. But I’ve learned that with good planning and clear communication, you can stay on top of it. A well-organized ledger has saved me more than once!

My Advice to You

If you’re thinking of starting your own company, don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start small. Focus on what you can control. In today’s world, you really only need a laptop, a phone, and the willingness to work hard. The rest, you’ll learn along the way.
