'I’m so glad I chose this programme since the year abroad was the best experience ever'

Yaoyao Zhang decided to study International Business at Hanze because it's a broad programme. 'I was still figuring out what I wanted but knew I wanted to do something with economics. IB was the perfect fit!'

'I’m so glad I chose this since the year abroad was the best experience ever. I like that the International Business programme focuses on intercultural competencies, and I got to implement what I learned in practice when I did my exchange at BINUS University in Jakarta and my placement at Indosole in Bali.'

Planning skills

'I struggled a little bit with doing all the projects in groups and the self-study as well. Alongside the scheduled lectures and coaching sessions, you need to be able to plan your work with your project group. With good communication with other students and coaching, it was easy to adapt and figure out my way of working in a group setting. 

What I like about IB at the Hanze is that the theory I learn through seminars and lectures can be directly applied into the related projects, sometimes that can be with a real company!'

'A valuable thing I have learned is that there is a lot of support from other students and teachers. When you’re passionate about a project or idea and you want to bring it to life, it is encouraged to do so. You want to further develop your talents? Do the Honours program or the study association! There are a lot of possibilities to grow.'

Advice for new students

'My tips for future IB students: be aware that you need to have a basis for economics, it will definitely help, as well as be prepared for self-study, and enjoy!!! It will be awesome to study in Groningen and at the Hanze. When I graduate, I will continue studying by doing a Master’s.'
