Artistic forms of remembrance at Westerbork Memorial
- Research project
Westerbork Memorial (Herinneringscentrum Kamp Westerbork), the Prins Claus Conservatorium and the Professorship Music in Context have a long-standing collaboration, in which the professorship conducts practice-based research into contemporary, artistic forms of remembrance and commemoration of the stories from Westerbork Memorial.
In the coming years, during encounters between staff and researchers connected to Westerbork Memorial and students, lecturers and researchers from the Prins Claus Conservatorium and Music in Context, we will explore the added value that the arts can offer when (re)telling stories from the past. The parties recognise a key role here for musicians, artists and arts educators. Through artistic expression, different locations and stories can be brought closer and an additional sensory dimension can be added to the experience of future generations visiting Westerbork Memorial.
Participants from the conservatoire (students, lecturers and researchers), from Memorial Centre Westerbork (staff and researchers) and the Professorship Music in Context form a learning community informed by action research.
The research is conducted by Tine Stolte and Fardo Eringa from Hanze University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with Bas Kortholt from Westerbork Memorial.
