Masters at Hanze

If you are looking for a practice-oriented master’s degree in the Netherlands, a Hanze Master could be the right fit.  Throughout this professional master’s degree, you will tackle real-world challenges, conduct applied research and work closely with professionals from your field. Unlike many academic master's programmes, you do not need to complete a premaster's first. After graduation, you will receive an internationally recognised master's degree, such as MA, MBA, MSc or LLM

You are entitled to take part in one bachelor's programme and one master's programme. This means you will pay the statutory tuition fees for the master's, like you did for your bachelor's programme. There are exceptions to this: some master's are ‘unfunded’, meaning they are not subsidised by the Dutch government and may therefore have higher tuition fees. While such programmes are sometimes offered by public educational institutions, they are more often found at commercial providers. Hanze offers only funded master's programmes at this time. Go to hanze.nl/tuitionfees to calculate the tuition fees for the programme you are interested in.

In many cases, you will need to pay additional fees on top of your tuition fees. These additional fees cover the costs of books, excursions and so on, and may differ from programme to programme. 

The registration deadline differs from programme to programme. Look closely at the programme you are interested in to see which registration deadline applies.

A professional master's degree is practice-oriented, while an academic master's degree focuses more on scientific research. During a professional master's at Hanze, you work on real-world challenges, collaborate with industry partners and conduct applied research. Unlike many academic master's programmes, you usually do not need to complete a premaster before enrolling.

This is definitely possible if you choose a part-time or dual master's. These programmes have been developed specifically for people who want to work and study at the same time. And thanks to the practice-oriented and applied nature of a professional master's, you can immediately apply what you are learning in your job. 

This differs from one master's to another. Most full-time master's last 1, 1.5 or 2 years. Most part-time and dual master's programmes have a duration of 2 years, although a few last 2.5 or 4 years. Check the information on the master's you are interested in to see how many years the programme lasts.

A Hanze Master's yields an internationally recognised master's degree. After completing a master’s programme at Hanze, you’ll have an MA, MBA, MSc of LLM, just like a university master’s degree.

No, you will not need to complete a transition year before being admitted. Unlike many academic master's programmes, a premaster’s is not required at Hanze. This means you can go straight from your bachelor's to the master's if you meet all the admission requirements.

Each master's programme has its own admission requirements. Most of the full-time master's programmes do not require work experience. Some of the part-time and dual master's programmes, however, do have an admission requirement that says you must have relevant work experience and/or relevant employment. Look closely at the admission requirements of the programme you are interested in, and contact the master's programme directly if you are unsure about anything.
