dr. Amar Bennadji

Amar Bennadji is professor of Sustainable Built Environment. His professorship conducts research on the sustainability of the built environment in the Northern Netherlands. Within the professorship there are three knowledge lines: Circular-Biobased Construction, Energy Renovation of Buildings (Building Energy Retrofit), and Sustainable Heritage.

Amar Bennadji has more than 30 years of experience in the sustainable built environment. He gained his research expertise through extensive research and consultancy projects in collaboration with the private and public sector. Before joining the Hanze, Bennadji began his career as an architect/engineer.

His interest in existing buildings and the environment led him to pursue studies in both fields. He completed a first master’s degree in Civilisations, followed by a second in Bio-climatic Architecture. Bennadji’s interest in digital media led him to investigate digital tools for the environment in assessing buildings, addressing their energy efficiency and developing decision-making tools as part of his postdoctoral research project.
