Anke Coumans

Professor Anke Coumans and her Research Group Image in Context develop projects in which visual artists and designers are given the space to explore and develop new roles within social, political, educational or intercultural contexts.

Central to the research of Coumans and her team is the question of the added value of artists and designers: the qualities they bring to these new roles, the extent to which their artistic attitude can be shared, and how art schools can best prepare their students to fulfil such roles.
The Research Group Image in Context is part of the Research Centre Art & Society and is affiliated with the bachelor's and master's programmes of Minerva Art Academy at Hanze University of Applied Sciences.
