Jeannette Nijkamp is professor of Healthy Cities. Her research focuses on creating a healthy urban living environment in which city residents feel comfortable and are encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The aim of the research is to develop combinations of physical and social interventions that truly work in everyday practice. Through the design of the living environment, the research explores how people are stimulated to engage in healthy behaviours such as physical activity and social interaction. It also examines how different parties, municipalities, companies, organisations, knowledge institutions and residents can collaborate in this process. The professorship develops applicable knowledge and measurement tools for a healthy living environment, from an integrated perspective and always in cooperation with practice partners and residents
