Mark Mobach is professor of Facility Management and leading professor of the Research Centre for Built Environment NoorderRuimte. His research focuses on the intersection of space and organisation, with a specific emphasis on healthcare, education and office environments. Mark is also programme leader of the research programme Healthy Buildings.
Our presence in buildings is often so self-evident that we no longer seem aware of the spaces in which we work and live. But how does that actually work? What is the influence of the built environment on people? And how can that influence be understood and used in a positive way? Through his professorship, Mark explores the properties of the built environment — such as building design, interior layout and technology — that play a decisive role in positively influencing people. His approach is multidisciplinary, with a strong focus on health and well-being.
In 2019, he received the Delta Award for his research — the same year in which NoorderRuimte was assessed as excellent. In 2023, he gave a lecture on this at the United Nations, his professorship received a Certificate of Research Excellence, and he became a member of the scientific honour society Sigma Xi.
