Mechatronics

Do you want to design and control robots and smart machines? Mechatronics is one of three majors within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme. You combine mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and IT, and learn to design mechatronic systems that bring mechanics, electronics and software together.

Mechatronics is all about systems that move. You explore robotics, programming, control systems, industrial automation and machine vision. You also learn about materials, mechanical principles, hydraulics and pneumatics. With this knowledge, you design and improve mechatronic systems and learn how to make production processes safer, cleaner, more efficient and more reliable.

Throughout the programme, you put what you learn directly into practice. You work on challenging, hands-on projects for companies and other real-world clients. This allows you to gain valuable professional experience during your studies while developing solutions that make processes smarter, more efficient and more sustainable.

What can you do with Mechatronics?

After graduation, you can work for a wide range of companies in the Netherlands and abroad. Possible roles include control systems engineer, industrial automation engineer, mechatronics design engineer and service engineer. You could work for a specialised product development company or a multinational where mechatronics plays a key role.

Mechatronics graduates work in sectors such as healthcare, sustainable energy and transport. With your multidisciplinary knowledge of mechatronics, you can pursue a wide range of career opportunities in an international job market.

Admission & application

The Mechatronics major is part of the full-time bachelor Electrical and Electronic Engineering. During the first two years, you build a broad foundation in electrical engineering. At the end of your second year, you choose one of three majors, including Mechatronics.
