About Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Electrical engineering is all around you, from robots and smart sensors to sustainable energy systems and industrial automation. During the Bachelor Electrical and Electronic Engineering, you learn to design, build and program technology that makes the world smarter, more sustainable and more efficient.

From your first year onwards, you work on hands-on projects and real-world challenges. You learn how electronics, software and control systems come together to create innovative solutions. You put theory directly into practice and build the knowledge and skills you need as an engineer.

During the first two years, you build a broad foundation in electrical engineering and discover where your interests and strengths lie. You then choose one of three majors:

  • Mechatronics – Build robots and smart machines that combine mechanics, electronics and software.
  • Sensors & Smart Systems – Design smart systems that use sensors to detect their surroundings, process data and respond accordingly.
  • Energy & Power Electronics – Create technology for sustainable energy, from charging solutions to smart energy grids.

Study alongside students from all over the world, learn from different perspectives and prepare for an international career. This programme is also available in Dutch.
 

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

During the Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme, you learn not only how technology works, but more importantly how to apply it. You work with fellow students, researchers and companies on real-world challenges. This gives you valuable hands-on experience while working on innovative solutions for real clients.

Year 1 and 2: build your foundation as an engineer
You build a broad foundation in electrical engineering. You learn to design, build and program analogue and digital electronics and explore embedded programming, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, data communication, drive systems and control systems. You apply this knowledge directly in hands-on projects. Electives help you discover which major best matches your interests.

During your first year, you will follow a compulsory 5-credit Dutch Language module. This module provides you with valuable language skills that enrich both your studies and daily life in the Netherlands.

Year 3: choose your direction
In Year 3 and the first semester of Year 4, you deepen your knowledge and skills in your chosen major: Mechatronics, Sensors & Smart Systems or Energy & Power Electronics. You also complete an internship and take a minor. You decide in which order you complete these parts of the programme.

Year 4: graduate in the professional field
In the second semester of Year 4, you complete your graduation project at a company or organisation. You work on an innovative real-world challenge and demonstrate that you are ready to start your career as an electrical engineer.

After your Electrical and Electronic Engineering studies

After completing the Bachelor Electrical and Electronic Engineering, you will receive a Bachelor of Science degree. You can start your career as an engineer or continue your studies with a master's degree.

Career prospects

With a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, you can work at a wide range of national and international companies. The programme prepares you for a career in fields such as electronics, robotics, embedded systems, industrial automation and energy technology.  Graduates can work at a wide range of national and international companies, including technology companies such as ASML and Philips.
