This research area aims to contribute to a society in which every child can grow up safely and in good health. We connect practice, research, education and experiential expertise to jointly contribute to the prevention of child abuse and the support of parenting. We always take a multi-perspective approach – from child to parent, and from professional to policy.
By learning from and with one another, we strengthen the capacity for action of professionals, students and organisations. Our knowledge is directly applicable, grounded in research, and supports professionals in carrying out their work carefully and effectively. In this way, we build a sustainable foundation for safe and healthy childhoods.
We work on two themes:
Child abuse
Every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment. Within this theme, we focus on the prevention, identification and sustainable tackling of child abuse.
Parenting
Parenting is valuable, but can also make people vulnerable. Within this theme, we explore the more challenging sides of parenting. Situations in which stress, poverty, mental health issues or limited support put pressure on parents.
