Practice, education and research meet at the Research Centre Biobased Economy. Professors and (lecturer-)researchers work together with companies and students on biobased and circular solutions for problems in industry, healthcare and society. As a student, you will be part of an ongoing project. This means that your research and results can have an impact on real issues.
The Research Centre Biobased Eocnomy consists of eight professorships. These professorships each have their own expertise and each one is led by one of our professors.
- Biobased Chemistry & Refinery – André Heeres
- Biomolecules & Health – Fin Milder
- Data Science for Life Science & Health – Wynand Alkema
- Healthy Food & Nutrition – Lizette Oudhuis
- Transition towards a circular economy – Niels Faber
- Bioconversion & Fermentation Technology – Janneke Krooneman
- Plant Production & Processing – Rob van Haren
- Sensors & Smart Systems – Heinrich Wörtche
The professorships are not connected to a specific education programme. You are able to join multiple professorships with your specific background. This will depend on your personal interests.
The Research Centre Biobased Economy has its own facilities at Zernike Campus. We have research labs in the Van Doorenverste building as well as a number of facilities further down the road on campus, like ZAP, the REMO-lab, and the LEDs Grow Plants facility.
Multiple ILST students have succesfully completed an internship at the research centre. Both the students and we ourselves are very positive about these collaborations.
If you are you interested in practice-oriented research and want to challenge yourself to develop your professional skills and think outside the box, a (graduation) internship at the Research Centre Biobased Economy might be the right fit for you!
