Marten van der Laan is professor in System Integration within the professorship Energy Transition of Entrance - Centre of Expertise Energy.
As an experienced energy professional, Marten is an expert on renewable energy, distributed energy sources, energy communities and demand-side management. His research area 'System Integration within the Energy Transition' investigates the optimal design of a sustainable energy system, consisting of different energy sources and carriers (gases, electricity, heat). Besides technical aspects, system integration also considers economic, organisational, legal, spatial and social aspects.

Professorship Energy Transition
Marten van der Laan is involved in the projects SynergyS, Making City and Coƶperatief in Balans, among others. Within these projects, he conducts research into the optimal design of a sustainable energy system. The professorship Energy Transition comprises three research areas:
- Energy transition and networks (dr Martien Visser)
- Hydrogen applications (Dr Jan-jaap AuƩ)
- System integration in energy transition (dr Marten van der Laan)
This professorship is part of the Institute of Engineering and Entrance - Centre of Expertise Energy.
