Explore how music can create meaningful ways of remembrance. This ongoing installation and presentation of musical portraits was created by the jazz master ensemble in light of the collaboration between Prins Claus Conservatorium, Research Centre Art & Society and Westerbork Memorial.
The Prins Claus Conservatorium, Research Centre Art & Society and Westerbork Memorial have been developing and researching artistic and contemporary forms of remembrance in their collaboration, specifically looking at how the arts may play a role in this.
From September 2025 until February 2026, the jazz master ensemble has been creating musical portraits, inspired by the lives and stories of people who have been internated at the former camp Westerbork. Their work will be part of the portait gallery which can be visited on the website of Westerbork Memorial (westerborkportretten.nl).
In the portrait gallery, a small memorial has been set up for these people using visual material and a description of their life story. The musical material of the jazz master ensemble is added to this. During PCC Presents, the material created by the Jazz students is being exhibited on the first floor of the Prins Claus Conservatorium. Will you come and listen to their compositions?
