Are you interested in pursuing an English-taught master degree after finishing your bachelor programme? Do you dream of working abroad and pursuing an international career? Then prepare yourself by following the minor Master up your English!

About this minor

By doing this minor you will improve the level of your English enormously. You will be
well-prepared for an English-taught master.

The minor is focused on improving your English language skills in the following areas:

  • Academic writing, to prepare you to write a master thesis.
  • Speaking skills: you will improve your presentation skills in English to reach the level necessary for a master degree.
  • English vocabulary and grammar of research and statistics. The subjects research and statistics themselves will not be too advanced. In this way you will be prepared language-wise for whatever English-taught master you choose.
  • Dealing with intercultural project work.
  • Listening and reading skills. You will gain speed in reading academic texts in the field of your own interests.
  • Setting up your individual research project.

After completing this minor, you will have the English skills required for a master's programme in English, with at least an IELTS level 6.5 (International English Language Testing System) and B2/C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). You will be able to write different types of texts at an academic and professional level, speak confidently in various professional situations, understand complex English texts, follow discussions on complex topics, and work on projects in multidisciplinary teams using professional English.

Before you can start

This minor is open to all students of Hanze UAS and students of Kies Op Maat-universities. The minor is particularly suitable for students aiming for an English-taught master or anyone interested in pursuing an international career. You should have an English language proficiency of level B1 advanced/beginning B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or IELTS 5.5
