'Don’t let self-doubt stop you. Surround yourself with people who inspire you'

Student Adriana Cocerhan in front of store

When Adriana Elena Cocerhan started studying International Business at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, she had no idea she would launch two companies during my time here. She knew she wanted to make an impact. Not only in fashion but in the way people connect.

From Childhood Passion to Purpose

'I grew up in Romania in a family where creating clothes was part of everyday life. Buying something new was rare; making it yourself was normal. That experience shaped me. It taught me to value craftsmanship and to see the people behind every product, not just the product itself.

In 2024, I founded Eledi Corsets, a brand dedicated to designing modern corsets for women in Europe who struggle to find styles that are both comfortable and flattering. Our corsets are inclusive, sustainable, and versatile. Designed to be worn over a shirt, dress, or even as a standalone top. We use 100% recycled materials, and our latest collection in denim will launch soon.

But Eledi is about more than fashion. It's my way of challenging fast fashion’s unethical practices and creating a workplace where designers feel seen, heard, and empowered.'

Building More Than a Brand

'While growing Eledi, I realised how important community is, to me, to my customers, and to other creatives. That led me to launch my second venture: Trusted Strangers, a social event series that will also launch in Groningen.

These house music parties aren’t promoted on social media. Instead, they grow through word-of-mouth, friends bringing friends. Safety is our top priority, ensuring a trusted environment while providing opportunities for local DJs and producers.’

What International Business Taught Me

'Studying International Business gave me more than just knowledge; it gave me the tools to turn ideas into action. I learnt how to write reports, understand research, and most importantly, when to ask for help. Teamwork is one of the hardest yet most valuable skills to master.

One key lesson I learnt is that business isn’t just a random idea you pitch on a Tuesday to ChatGPT. It’s something you grow into. It becomes part of you. And it takes teamwork, persistence, and a lot of learning.'

The Ups and Downs of Entrepreneurship

'Running two businesses while studying isn’t easy. I’ve had moments where I felt overwhelmed, especially when dealing with contracts and paperwork (my least favorite part). But I’ve learnt to either figure it out or find someone who can help.

The best part of doing business is the people I meet along the way. It has helped me grow socially, refine my business skills, and contribute to industry change.'

My Advice to You

'If you're thinking about starting your own business but feel unsure, believe me, I’ve been there. Don’t let self-doubt stop you. Surround yourself with people who inspire you. Go to events. Join associations. Ask questions. Business isn’t a one-person job; it’s a team effort.

Your routine and every small step toward improvement will shape your success. Surround yourself with honest, supportive people, and keep costs as low as possible in the beginning. Look for funding and seize every opportunity. An entrepreneur never settles for less. We find opportunities even in the darkest places and create hope when there’s none.'
