dr. ir. Ifigenia Psarra

Dr. Ir. Ifigenia Psarra is an architectural educator and researcher, with a focus on spatial and social transitions on the fields of inclusivity and sustainability. She completed her Bachelor and Master Studies on Architecture and Urban Planning (cum laude) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2010.

Her PhD research at TU Eindhoven focused on the spatial and behavioural aspects of mobility transition. The post-doctoral research at Noorderruimte Research Centre of Hanze University focused on the spatial and social aspects of energy transition in cities. Ifigenia is initiator of the development of a new research line at the same research centre, on the impact of space on the recovery process of traumatized children (transition to child-inclusive, healthy environments).

She has several publications in peer-reviewed international journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. In 2016, Ifigenia won the Pyke Johnson Award - Best paper in the area of planning and environment – by the American Academy of Science and Engineering.

Ifigenia has conducted short-term scientific missions at the Technion University in Israel and at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Spain.

Additionally, she has an extensive teaching, coaching and thesis supervision experience.

Since 2018 Ifigenia teaches at the Academy of Architecture of Hanze University. She teaches, organizes and leads design and research studios (covering both the architectural and urban scale), and mentors students. She is the head of the education committee and was member of the development of the new curriculum program. Ifigenia was entitled “Teacher of the year” for the School of Future Environments in 2021.

Between 2020 and 2023, Ifigenia was member of the development team of the new multidisciplinary master program Management of Social and Spatial Transitions (in Dutch: Master SociaalRuimtelijk Transitiemanagement) of Hanze University, in which she teaches and leads the studio on Transitions and Society. She is also a mentor and head of the education committee.

Since 2021, she teaches the Integrated Energy Landscapes course at the multidisciplinary master program Energy for Society of Hanze University.
