Admission requirements in general

To be admitted to this programme you will need a national secondary school diploma or an international secondary school diploma. Your education qualifications must be equivalent to the Dutch VWO secondary school diploma.

Students with a Propedeuse (completed foundation course) in the Bachelor's programmes of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Physics Engineering can be also accepted for the Mechanical Engineering 3-year programme.

As the programme is taught in English, you may have to prove your English language proficiency, depending on your educational background and nationality.

Dutch students

Dutch students with a VWO diploma can apply. The Mechanical Engineering bachelor's programme suits VWO students who have completed the study profiles:

  • Natuur & Techniek - directly accepted
  • Natuur & Gezondheid - Physics or 'Natuur, Leven en Technologie' and Mathematics B
  • Economie & Maatschappij - Physics and Mathematics B
  • Cultuur & Maatschappij - not admitted

Dutch students need to apply before May 1st!

International students

International students need to have attained the equivalent of a Dutch VWO diploma (NLQF4+/EQF4), including mathematics and physics at advanced level. Please check the Nuffic website.

For example:

An applicant from Germany must have a 'Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife'.

An applicant from the United Kingdom must have a 'General Certificate of Secondary Education in 3 subjects with marks ranging from A*-C, plus a General Certificate of Education with 3 subjects at advanced level (6 different subjects in total)' or a 'Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate (Principal Subject)' or a 'Cambridge International Pre-U Diploma'.

An applicant from Belgium must have a 'Diploma van secundair onderwijs richting Kunst Secundair Onderwijs (KSO) / Technisch Secundair Onderwijs (TSO)' or a 'Diploma van Secundair Onderwijs, richting Algemeen Secundair Onderwijs (ASO)'.

As Mechanical Engineering is an international programme, a comprehensive understanding of English is a must. So, in addition students will need a level of English equivalent to CEFR B2 in at least reading and writing. For non-EU international students a minimum of an academic IELTS test with an overall band score of at least 6.0 (six) , Cambridge or TOEFL is required. Here you can find more information about the language requirements.
