Financial provisions

You may experience a study delay due to illness, a disability or unforeseen circumstances. In certain cases, you may then be eligible for financial provisions both within and outside the Hanze.

DUO Performance Grant

Have you incurred a study delay due to medical circumstances and are you therefore unable to graduate within two years (Associate Degree) or four years (Bachelor)?
Then you may be eligible for an extra (half) year of student finance from DUO. You can discuss the possibilities, requirements, details and application procedure with a student counsellor. You can also read more on DUO’s website.

Student Support Fund: Force Majeure

From the Student Support Fund, you may receive financial compensation if you take longer to complete your studies due to force majeure. Examples include illness, pregnancy, a disability, special family circumstances or caregiving responsibilities.
If you are dealing with a special circumstance that is expected to last longer than two months, contact your academic counsellor and a student counsellor (studentendecaan) from Hanze Student Support immediately.

Emergency Fund

If you experience acute financial problems due to unexpected circumstances, it may be possible—under certain conditions—to receive a loan from the Hanze Emergency Fund. This applies to situations in which you suddenly cannot pay your rent, living expenses, or healthcare costs and have no safety net to fall back on. In such cases, contact a student counsellor to discuss your situation.

Individual Study Allowance

If you are a student, over 18, and unable to have a part-time job due to a disability or illness, you may be eligible for a study allowance from the municipality. Here you can find more information from the Municipality of Groningen about this allowance. Other municipalities also offer this provision—check the website of the municipality in which you are registered.
